Lois Chenier, Grants Officer
Housing Fund of Central Alabama
A native of Tuskegee Institute, AL, Lois Chenier serves as the Grants Officer of the Housing Fund of Central Alabama (the Fund). Miss Chenier is responsible for managing the Fund, as well as the grantsmanship activities of the Fund. She is also responsible for working with non-profits to build their capacity and provide technical assistance. Miss Chenier is responsible for the development and management of the non-profit incubator, the incubator curriculum development, and the growth and development of the incubator participants.
Prior to her work at the Fund, Miss Chenier worked 14 years as a Manager for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, the state's largest health insurance provider. Under her leadership, Miss Chenier was responsible for the automation of the dental claims processing system, and was instrumental in the implementation of their dental preferred provider program. Prior to her tenure with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, she was a marketing representative with Xerox Corporation, where she was responsible for developing new small business accounts in the Homewood and immediate surrounding areas.
Miss Chenier is an alumnus of the University of Alabama, College of Communication, where she graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Art in Public Relations.
Miss Chenier has received national recognition with articles published in Performance Management for outstanding performance management projects, as well as local recognition in the Atrium magazine for one of her performance management projects. She served as Co-Chair of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama Mentor Program, and under her leadership, the program was named Birmingham City Schools Mentor Program of the Year.
Miss Chenier is a member of the Birmingham City Schools Partners in Education Advisory Board, where she is Co-Chair of the Administration and Recognition Committee. Leadership positions previously held include: Leadership Development Association President, First Vice-President, Partners in Education Mentor Program Co-Chair; National Management Association Sunbelt Council First Vice-President, Secretary/Treasurer.
